I made this piece to act as a way to getting back to that feeling of floating on the sea, the calmness and freedom that comes with the gentle swell.

This piece is inspired by my time as artist in residence at the Bankside Hotel during the Totally Thames Festival, Being so close to the river has really given me a deeper sense of its energy and importance. I have spent a lot of time on the shore underneath Blackfriars Bridge and been mesmerised by the tidal nature of the river. When you are standing on what feels like a coastal beach it is hard to imagine that in just a few hours, the water will rise 7 meters above with such a force. And from that force comes wonderful reflections on the surface, I've tried to capture that energy and interaction between the elements of water and light. This pieces is infused with a drop of water from the Thames as a symbolic act of connection. Pairs well with Under Blackfriars Bridge IV.

Like water, we are always in flow. Observing the way water flows and adapts to its environment with such grace reminds me that life is a series of moments that make up its constant flux. Being able 'go with the flow' is a wonderful thing. Not always achievable but always something to aspire to!
When you jump into the sea to start a scuba dive, there is this magical moment of feeling ‘at one’ with the rhythm of the sea, the swell. I’ve tried to capture that energy here so I’ve included a close up of the surface taken from the bottom edge of the canvas so you can see the texture of that ebb and flow.
